Horstermeer in Nederhorst den Berg

betekenis & definitie

The Horstermeer, located east of Nederhorst den Berg, was reclaimed in 1882 within a dike dating back to 1612. On the Middenweg, after 1882, the ribbon village Horstermeer arose, where from 1905 horticultural businesses and later flower and herb nurseries were established.

In 1902, the Christian anarchist colony 'Walden' was established under the leadership of Frederik van Eeden. The Jachthuis (Middenweg 88) is a superintendent's house with pseudo-lattice from 1903. Nice farmhouses are the 'De Horst' longhouse farm (Middenweg 32; 1903), built in neo-Renaissance forms, and the semi-detached house of the Middenweg 21 farm (1924). De Geref. church 'Elim' (Machineweg 14, circa 1930) is a hall church in simple expressionist forms.
