Homes in Spaarndam

betekenis & definitie

The most important buildings are concentrated on the quays along the whirlpool. Of these mostly simple, deep houses, some may still have a 17th-century core, but more often it is an 18th-century core. Possibly 17th-century is the deep house Westkolk 48 with 19th-century plastered façade.

Also behind the facades of Westkolk 10 (café 'Spaarndam'), Westkolk 24 and Westkolk 34 old parts can remain. Simple spout facades have IJdijk 33, IJdijk 35, Westkolk 28 and Westkolk 30. The Haarlemmerhuis (IJdijk 7) has a bell façade with a wooden pediment. This building was built in Haarlem in 1781 and rebuilt here in 1976 after being demolished in 1973. The 18th century house Oostkolk 3 has a two-storey back house (IJdijk 45-47). Around 1840 Oostkolk 13 received a plastered façade. Striking at Oostkolk 11 is the store cupboard (circa 1850). In the late 19th century, Westkolk 52-56 (circa 1880) and the neo-Renaissance details were built IJdijk 13 (1893) and Taanplaats 10 (circa 1900).
