Fort outright in Naarden

betekenis & definitie

(Admiral Helfrichweg approx.). This fortress, which is located on the north side of the city, dates back to a redoubt created in 1746, which was connected with the city in 1785 by a retribution. In 1873 -77 the current polygonal fort was created with three bomb-free buildings (barracks, guardhouse, shelter). Furthermore, a new long earthen wall with access road was constructed. Over the canal is a unique crane bridge (1878), of which the four beams were rotatable (now fixed bridge deck). Around 1914 the fort was fortified with shelters, trenches and batteries.
