Like the Naardertrekvaart, the higher area around Muiderberg was a weak point in the New Dutch Waterline. That is why in 1931 at Hakkelaarsbrug three concrete machine gun casemates of type V.I.S. laid out. Of these, two remain.
In 1939-40 the defense was extended with a line of concrete group shelters between IJsselmeer and Naardermeer - including some in the village (Echolaan) - and tank obstacles on the IJsselmeerdijk. The polder house in Muiderberg (Dijkweg 1), located to the west of Muiderberg, is a white plastered building that was erected around the dike around 1850, with a downstairs barn below. The
adjacent house Dijkweg 2 dates from 1890.
