Schotsch rechtsgeleerde en historikus, geb. 28, Oct. 1726 te Edinburg, overl. 29 Nov. 1792, studeerde te Utrecht, en bekleedde in Schotland allerlei hooge rechterlijke ambten; hij schreef: Annals of Scotland, from the accession of Malcolm III, surnamed Canmore, to the accession of Robert I (1776, later voortgezet tot aan de troonsbestijging der Stuarts, 1779); Memorials and letters relating to the history of Britain in the reign of James I (1762), Historical memorials (1769) enz.
