The R.K. St.-Hieronymus Church in Wognum

betekenis & definitie

(Kerkstraat 81) is a modern church with freestanding concrete bell tower, built in 1969-70 to design by J.H. de Groot to replace a church dating from 1857 on the other side of the street. In 1878, in addition to the church, the Franciscan Franciscan sisters from Salzkotten established the (also disappeared) Pius founded. It was retained there in 1894 at Huize St.-Agnes (Kerkstraat 70), which remained as a boarding school for the elderly and boarding school children until 1987. The U-shaped two-storey building with neo-Renaissance details was designed by E.J. Margry (restored 1990).
